Practical Science for home-education

Practical science in Devon & the south west to support your child’s learning

Sciencedipity’s practical science clubs for home education are suitable for primary aged children aged 6-12, who will receive the British Science Association’s Crest Award after completing 8 activities. Younger siblings are welcome too at a reduced fee.

We also have some stand-alone workshops for home-ed families at venues who haven’t got a regular club.

The club’s key features:

    • The club is fortnightly, date & time depends on the location
    • Each session is 90 mins long
    • There are 10 sessions to each club, with each session covering different topics, such as anatomy, microbiology, food chains, engineering, forces etc….to see the whole of the current term’s topics, click here
    • You can book into all sessions or just 1 or a few sessions – its up to you
    • Suit 6-12yo who will receive the BSA’s Superstar CREST Award (certificate & badge) after completion of 8 activities. Download & print the Superstar Crest Passport here for us to stamp to record your progress
    • Younger children (3-5yo) are welcome with accompanying adults at £5 each if participating but only older children can get the award
    • Sessions are also valid for Children’s University Passports
    • Parents can drop older children off if aged 6+ but everyone is welcome to stay and join in

Older children/teens

Ruth from Sciencedipity offers tuition for older children in particular in Biology and Microbiology. She is a Biomedical Scientist & qualified teacher, and currently teachers part-time on the degree at the local college to her home town of Barnstaple, as well as private 1-2-1 sessions and her private lab-based courses for teens.
